• Epic Rides in Wales

It’s that time of year when you will probably be looking ahead and thinking about what you would like to do and where you would like to go in the coming months. There’s likely a family holiday lined up already which you’ll no doubt be looking forward to – a chance to kick back and relax in the sunshine with a good book and a cool beverage. But what about that other thing? That trip you fancy that will challenge you, put you out of your comfort zone, push you to your limits and reward you with a feeling of exhilaration and achievement.

Well, how about an epic multi-day ride across Wales?

There is so much amazing riding here that it can be hard just to decide where to go, never mind the pedalling, route planning and sorting out all the accommodation. But, there are a few classic routes already designed that can take a lot of the stress out of organising a big trip and there are people out there who can help simplify things further.

For example, there’s the Trans-Cambrian route – a massive 3 day ride across the Cambrian mountains from the English border westwards to the Welsh coast. It’ll take you across farmed hillsides, into wild moorlands where you won’t see a soul, and then climbing over high, steep-sided mountains before descending towards the sea. It is well served by good hotels and is rideable on a good quality hardtail mountain bike. (It’s possible to do it on a gravel bike really, but I much prefer an MTB for the steep descents!)

    Trans Cambrian

Or, how about the newly established Traws Eryri route – a 4 day ride from mid-Wales northwards through the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) to the north coast. Some big days on big hills, optional fun sections on some of the best trail centres in the UK, descents through mountain passes, and you’ll finish in the beautiful castle town of Conwy at the sea.

    Traws-Eryri

If you’re feeling really adventurous then there’s the Traws-Cymru – a seven day epic ride from the North to the South of Wales.

Rides like these can take a lot of planning – from figuring out the best (most-rideable) route to finding the perfect accommodation along the way, as well as working out the logistics of a point to point journey. Fortunately there are people who can help take away all (or some) of the hassle, and that’s where we come in…

For the Trans-Cambrian trip MTB Cymru is a great company to go with  – they’ve been guiding this route for donkey’s years and have established themselves as the go-to provider for the trip.  (I do quite a bit of guiding for them on this trip too so am somewhat biased, but there really is no-one better!)

For the Traws-Eryri and Traws-Cymru Wheelism can get things organised for you, or we can also offer something more bespoke – perhaps you have different end points in mind, or maybe you want as much technical riding as possible as well as covering the distance? Could it be that you’d like to summit some (very) big hills as part of your journey?

If you’re looking for a fully-organised supported trip, with accommodation, route, and transport for you and your kit, then drop us a line with the dates you have in mind and we can look at getting it organised.

Alternatively, if you’re keen to plan your own trip but need reliable bikes, bikepacking kit or maybe just transport for you, your bikes and your kit, then Wheelism can help here too. We can arrange to deliver bikes and bags to you at the start and collect you and your kit from the finish.

So whatever you’re planning for the big adventure of the year why not give us a call or drop us a line to see how we can help. We’re always happy to chat bikes and rides!
